ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council approved the sale of the old police department building on U.S. 31 during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 10.
The City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the sale of the old Alabaster Police Department property located at 201 First Street north to Justin Bailey and Heather Bailey in the amount of $175,000.
According to Council member Greg Farrell, the reason behind the low sale price was due to the facility’s need to be brought to code. The Alabaster City Council previously approved an ordinance to dispose of two parcels at 201 First Street North in April 2024. The Alabaster Police Department moved out of the 70-year-old facility and into the new building in the Siluria Mill District in October 2023.
In other business, the Alabaster City Council approved the acceptance of the fiscal year 2024 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report prepared by the city’s independent auditor Truitt, Tingle, Paramore and Argent, LLC.
“We had no findings which is the best result that we can get,” Council member Stacy Rakestraw said. “I appreciate all that the finance department does to keep us in line with our finances, and we’re very grateful for that.”
The City Council approved a resolution supporting the 2025 Gone Fishin’ Not Just Wishin’ event by Exceptional Anglers in the amount of $3,000.
“This is held at Oak Mountain (State Park) each year, and it’s something that we support,” Rakestraw said. “It’s for special needs children and they teach basic fishing skills to Alabaster City Schools students, Pelham City Schools students along with some from Shelby County and Jefferson County.”
In other news, the City Council approved the following items on the agenda:
- The appointment of Kelly Preveaux to Place 1 on the Alabaster Commercial Development Authority
