PELHAM – The Pelham Rec Center was home to the second annual Indoor Community Yard Sale on Saturday, March 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. Pelham residents were able to buy and sell various items, from clothes to clocks to blankets to books.

Alicia Walters, the assistant director of Pelham Parks and Rec, believed the event was a smashing success.

“We had a great event and the turnout was awesome,” Walters said. “We had 45 sellers participate this year. Sellers continue to share their feedback and appreciate the ability to set up indoors on Friday evening and that this event is a rain or shine event.”

Walters added that the event was such a success that most sellers ran out of items.

“Many of our sellers sold most of their items but if they did not, they had the option to leave their items and donate to The Foundry which picked up donated items at the completion of the event,” Walters said.

Out of the 45 sellers, 37 were indoor sellers and eight were outdoor sellers. The wide range of sellers created an exciting atmosphere, according to Walters.

“The atmosphere was welcoming, and (we had) lots of shopping,” Walters said. “When we opened the doors at 8 a.m. we had a line wrapping around the building. Shoppers were eager to search for their next treasure… It was a beautiful day so there was lots of foot traffic with our outdoor sellers as well.”

Walters also added that the event changed dramatically from the first installment.

“We increased our indoor booth space by adding 10 more booths and for the first time offered outdoor booths,” Walters said. “Our seller participation increased and we felt like we had more of the community or surrounding communities come shop and enjoy the morning with us.”

Items for sale at the event included children’s clothes, toys, glassware, shoes, household products, furniture and more, according to Walters. The increased fan attendance has spurred Walters to plan for next year’s yard sale already.

“We had close to 600 (people) attend the event this year,” Walters said. “There were lots of shoppers that seemed to find what they were looking for and sellers happy to part with their items. Our plans will be to host another community yard sale next March. We will continue to offer space inside and outside. We anticipate a quick sellout of booths since we heard many of this year’s sellers comment (that) they will be back and inviting others to participate as well.”
