CHELSEA – The Chelsea City Council will hold a public hearing for the rezoning of property at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 18.

The hearing is set to be for the rezoning of the property located at 9680 and 10450 Highway 11, which contains 114.5 acres of land and 284 lots in total.

The property, which is set for a new subdivision called Reserve Chelsea, is coming before the council to be rezoned from A-1, or agricultural, to PRD, or planned residential, and will be a gated community that will feature numerous amenities and 284 lots.

Scott Weygand, president pro tempore of the Chelsea City Council and member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, discussed why the property is going through a public hearing, as this property plans to build houses that will be for rental purposes only.

“Any rezoning requires a public hearing at Planning and Zoning and at City Council, so we’re following that process,” “We’re requiring him to install some covenance for backstop on that, but as far as him fitting into our zoning, that’s what we’re holding him to.”

Should the rezoning get approved by the City Council, the developers of Reserve Chelsea will be required to return to the Planning and Zoning Commission to get approval on a preliminary plat before following the rest of the necessary steps until construction is ready to begin.

The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on March 18 at Chelsea City Hall, and members of the public are allowed to attend the meeting and provide input.
