PELHAM – The Pelham Senior Center will host the fourth annual Health and Wellness Expo on Thursday, April 3.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and will feature more than 25 local vendors, various health screenings and tons of giveaways.
Katie Augsburger, the recreation coordinator for seniors with Pelham Parks and Recreation, discussed the inspiration behind the expo.
“Having the Health and Wellness Expo at the Pelham Senior Center offers numerous benefits to both members and the broader community,” Augsburger said. “In doing so we can increase awareness of health resources while promoting preventative care, supporting mental and emotional wellbeing and encouraging healthy nutrition and physical activity.”
Augsburger added that the event has grown exponentially since its inception.
“Each year we have expanded our partnerships with local healthcare providers and have been able to diversify the health services and screenings offered,” Augsburger said. “We will have over 25 vendors on site offering valuable resources to educate and empower the 55-plus community, along with door prizes, giveaways and lite refreshments.”
Augsburger explained some of the most popular aspects of the expo, which all serve to improve the health of the elderly.
“The most popular aspects of the expo are free health screenings, blood pressure checks, vision screenings, fall risk evaluations, memory and cognitive health assessments,” Augsburger said. “Community resource booths are also a popular aspect along with health-related giveaways.”
Augsburger concluded by expressing how important events like the expo are to the Pelham community at large.
“Hosting the Health and Wellness Expo at the Pelham Senior Center has had a significant impact on our community, benefiting not only the seniors, but also their families, caregivers, healthcare providers and local businesses,” Augsburger said. “It has provided access to free screenings that some seniors may not have been able to receive otherwise, along with an avenue to build relationships with local healthcare providers all in one place.”
