HOOVER – The Spain Park Jaguars continued to prove why they are the class of Class 6A girls soccer as they took a pair of strong results on back-to-back days.

Spain Park defeated the then-No. 3 Homewood Patriots 2-0 on Thursday, March 13 before earning a 10-0 area play win over the Pelham Panthers on Friday, March 14 at Spain Park High School.

The victories extended the Jags’ win streak to five games in a row as they are now 10-1 on the year and sit at No. 1 in the Class 6A girls soccer coaches poll.

In the first game against Homewood, Spain Park got out to a strong start as it scored the opening goal of the match to take a 1-0 lead over the No. 3 team in Class 6A. That goal was key in giving the Jags a halftime lead as they held the Patriots scoreless in the first half.

The stellar defensive form carried over into the second 40 minutes to secure a clean sheet. While Spain Park wouldn’t need another goal due to the defensive dominance, it got one anyway to polish off the 2-0 win.

Reese Oldfield and Addy Soehn came up big for the offense once again as each senior had a goal and an assist in the victory.

That set up a big result in area play against Pelham the next night.

The Jags quickly established themselves as the frontrunners with the opening goal of the night, and they continued to build their lead throughout the half into a 5-0 advantage by the halftime whistle.

Pelham was unable to break through the Spain Park defense during the match, and the Jags capitalized to end the match before the 80-minute mark. The hosts added on five more goals to double up their halftime lead and win early due to the mercy rule.

Oldfield dominated throughout the game, securing a team-high four goals in the win. Soehn finished the night with two goals and an assist, and Olivia Garner earned a brace as well with two goals.

Alex Langan and Adrianna Hayes rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece while Cadence Leemon had two assists and Gianna Thornton earned an assist.

Spain Park will finish out its pre-spring break slate on the road on Wednesday, March 19 for a battle against the Mountain Brook Spartans, the defending 6A state champions and the current No. 3 team in the classification. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Mountain Brook High School.
