Thompson girls breeze past Prattville for sixth-straight victory

PRATTVILLE – The Thompson Warriors continued rolling through Class 7A, Area 5 with another big road win in area play.

Thompson defeated the Prattville Lions 8-0 on Friday, March 14 at Prattville High School to improve to 2-0 in area play.

As a result, the Warriors secured their sixth-straight victory to continue their strong start to the season and tighten their grip on the No. 10 spot in the Class 7A girls soccer coaches poll.

The win came after a convincing 3-0 victory on the road over Athens on Tuesday, March 12.

In the match against Prattville, Thompson got working on the offensive end from the early moments of the game and put the ball into the back of the net for the opening goal of the match.

That proved to be the first of many offensive chances for the Warriors, and they converted on many of them as they found the back of the net with regularity.

Thompson racked up eight goals throughout the match as it continued to put the pressure on the Lions and built up a multi-goal lead.

On the other end of the pitch, the Warriors secured a clean sheet as they didn’t allow any goals for the entirety of the match.

That allowed the Warriors to roll to an 8-0 win and a second victory in area play.

Luna Montiel-Duenas contributed to six of the eight goals on the night as the freshman had three goals and three assists. Her sister Dia secured a brace with a pair of goals while also earning two assists.

Charli Gantt was the team’s other player with multiple goals as she had two goals and an assist. Giulia Wekesa finished with a goal and an assist and Nathalie Gonzalez earned an assist in the win.

With the victory, Thompson improved to 10-3-1 on the year. The Warriors will hit the road to face Oneonta on Tuesday, March 18 at 5 p.m.

Thompson’s boys lost 2-0 to No. 4 Prattville in a battle of top-six teams in Class 7A, dropping the Warriors to 1-1 in area play but 8-5-1 overall. They will face Oneonta on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m.
