After a senior season full of recognition, Haley Trotter is up for one more award as she is among the top players in all of Class 6A.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association named the Chelsea forward Trotter as one of the three finalists for the Class 6A Girls Basketball Player of the Year award on Wednesday, March 19.
Trotter was recognized alongside Park Crossing’s Saniya Jackson and Hazel Green’s Kristen Johnson as the finalists for the statewide honor.
As a result, Trotter is also a finalist for the prestigious Miss Basketball award, currently held by Spring Garden senior Ace Austin.
The Player of the Year winners for each classification and the Mr. and Miss Basketball awards will be announced at a luncheon banquet on Thursday, April 17 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel.
Trotter is the first player from Shelby County to be nominated for the award since 2020 when former Spain Park standout and current Alabama star Sarah Ashlee Barker won Miss Basketball and Class 7A Player of the Year.
Trotter led the Hornets to a 27-9 record in the 2024-25 season, including a 6-0 mark in area play along with the Class 6A, Area 8 and Central Regional championships.
She finished the season with an average of 17.7 points, nine rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while racking up 87 steals and 39 blocks. She ends her career in the Chelsea blue and white as the school’s all-time leader in points and rebounds.
Trotter also played in the North-South All-Star Game last summer, dropping 12 points while playing against some of the best rising seniors from the southern half of the state.
A Shelton State signee, Trotter has been an All-County First Team selection in each of the last two seasons and most recently earned a Class 6A All-State First Team selection to go with her Class 7A All-State Second Team spot from 2024.
