The Thompson Warriors have gotten off to another blazing start to the season, and now, they are recognized among the top 25 teams in the country.
Thompson entered the MaxPreps national softball rankings as the No. 25 team in the country when the latest rankings released on Tuesday, March 18.
The Warriors were previously sitting at No. 27 but moved up two spots in the rankings thanks to a strong week of competition. They went 5-0 in their games since the last rankings released.
Thompson first defeated the Helena Huskies 7-1 on Tuesday, March 11 to sweep the season series between the county foes before beating a 2024 7A state tournament team in Spain Park the next day.
The Warriors then went down to Orange Beach and took a pair of wins over out-of-state opponents. They first defeated Florida’s Milton by the run rule before taking down Louisiana’s Doyle in an 8-3 contest on Friday, March 14.
Thompson then made a big statement by defeating Springville, which is currently ranked as the No. 26 team in the country, in a 6-4 game on the road on Monday, March 17.
With the wins, the Warriors are now 22-2 on the year as they gear up for a key stretch of the season when area play begins on April 1.
Thompson is one of just two teams from Alabama in the national top 25 as defending Class 4A state champion and MaxPreps national champion Orange Beach currently sits at No. 12, dropping four spots from its No. 8 ranking a week ago.
The Warriors entered last year’s rankings just more than a year ago when they earned their first national rank on Tuesday, March 12.
Thompson will finish out its pre-spring break slate on Thursday, March 20 at 4:30 p.m. against the Hartselle Tigers in the final game before the start of the Warriors’ Class 7A, Area 5 schedule against Tuscaloosa County, Prattville and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.
