PELHAM – The Pelham Racquet Club is set to host three separate tennis tournaments in April and May that will bring in dozens of tennis players across the country and the world.
The National Women’s 65-95 Tennis Tournament will be held from Tuesday, April 1 to Sunday, April 6. The tournament is set to feature the top senior women athletes from across the country.
Following the tournament, the club will host the National/Husband Wife Tennis Tournament from Friday, April 25 to Tuesday, April 29. The USTA-sanctioned event will exclusively feature married couples. The combined age of the husband and wife determines their division in the tournament.
The Women’s Pro Classic W50 Tennis Tournament begins on Monday, May 19 and ends on Sunday, May 25. This tournament is a part of the ITF Women’s World Tennis tour and features a $50,000 cash prize. Players will also compete for crucial WTA ranking points as well as the cash prize.
Chaney Mills, the director of the Pelham Racquet Club, gave more details on the National Women’s 65-95 Tennis Tournament.
“We have not hosted a National Age Championship before,” Mills said. “We have hosted NTRP level events, so I think it’s always fun to get something new. The fact that we are on the National Calendar for Adult Tournaments for the past three years with two more in the future is exciting. It will also be cool to see these women compete. To travel around the country and the world to play in these events is pure dedication and love for the sport.”
Mills then expressed the importance of the Women’s Pro Classic W50 not only for the participants but for fans as well.
“We love bringing professional tennis to Pelham,” Mills said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to get outside and come to the Pelham Racquet Club to watch some high-level tennis. The event is free to attend. We are happy to see this tournament come back to a new clubhouse. It will be much easier to run this event with the space that we have.”
The new clubhouse and renovations to the Pelham Racquet Club has also provided a space for room rentals for public events like corporate lunches and baby showers.
Mills spoke on the importance of Pelham Racquet Club to host multiple prestigious tournaments in quick succession.
“It means we have the best staff,” Mills said. “This is a lot back-to-back and sometimes it falls like that. We do meet as a staff and have the honest conversation of can we do this and should we do this? This staff has always welcomed the challenge, and I appreciate that so much. We all know what we signed up and we want to serve the community the best we can.”
