ALABASTER – With a familiar friend back at the helm for a night of joint fellowship, Siluria Baptist Church in Alabaster is set to host a Night of Hymns and Gospel Songs.

The song service is set to take place on Sunday, March 30 at 5 p.m. at Siluria Baptist Church which is located at 10696 Highway 119, Alabaster AL 35007 across from Champy’s World Famous Fried Chicken.

“We’re excited about this event,” Lead Pastor Dr. Michael Brooks said. “We’re inviting the community and (are) happy to invite all who would like to come for a night of hymn singing and gospel songs.”

The service will be under the leadership of Siluria Baptist Church’s interim music minister, Cindy Wingate, and the church’s former music minister, Ron Burns of Crestline Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.

“It’ll be a fun event,” Brooks said. “I think it’s a time just to celebrate our heritage with the old hymns and gospel songs that many of us grew up with.”

After hosting a similar event at Crestline Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa with participants from Siluria Baptist Church, Crestline will return the favor as Burns will be joined by several members of the Tuscaloosa congregation.

“I try to organize joint projects for choirs and hymn nights for different churches to join in,” Burns said. “We had one last September here at our church and just because of my connections there, we ended reaching out to them and they had a good group join us in that night of hymns. So, this is (to) return (the) favor.”

During the event, attendees will sing a selection of approximately 30 old hymns and gospel songs accompanied by piano or organ.

“There are some songs that just (aren’t) in the mainstream hymnals—old gospel songs that some people would know like ‘Beulah Land’ or ‘Just A Little Talk With Jesus,’” Burns said. “So, we’ve kind of incorporated some of those in with the night… We’ll be singing as a congregation and there will be probably two or three special songs.”

After the singing, attendees will be able to enjoy a fellowship meal featuring finger foods.
