CALERA – On Saturday, March 22, Littleton Construction, in partnership with Calera City Council member Kenneth Cost, came together to assist Calera resident Tim Striegel with the final cleanup and removal of his tornado-damaged mobile home.
On Saturday, March 15, an EF-1 tornado swept through Calera, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. After receiving a notification on his phone during the night of the storm, Striegel and his daughter left their mobile home which was hit moments later.
With their home destroyed, the family spent the night at the Calera Police Department after being unable to find a place to go.
The following day, the Calera community rallied behind those that were affected by the storms, including the Striegel family. Members of Collectivus Church on Main Street assisted Striegel with cleanup efforts.
“If you ever lose faith in humanity, have something like this happen,” Striegel said. “The support from the community has been incredible.”
However, despite the significant amount of work accomplished, the demolition and removal of the remains of the trailer was left.
On March 22, Cost was joined by Council member Debbie Byers, Dee Starkey from Calera Main Street and the team from Littleton Construction—who donated their time and equipment—as they met on-site to begin the final phase of cleanup.
“It is a true honor to serve the people of Calera during both good and challenging times,” Cost said. “I want to build on all the positive momentum in our city and call on everyone to help create the best Calera we can.”
