HOOVER – Hoover City Schools will close on Monday, March 31 due to the threat of severe weather.

Hoover City Schools first shared a three-hour delay would take place on the afternoon of Sunday, March 30 before announcing a full closure on the morning of March 31.

“To prioritize the safety of our students, staff and families, Hoover City Schools will be closed today, March 31,” read an official Facebook post by Hoover City Schools. “Updated guidance from the National Weather Service indicates that the anticipated severe weather is predicted to directly impact transportation times, with the potential for high winds and hail. This presents a safety concern for our school community—particularly for students who ride the bus.”

Hoover City Schools shared that it will not host e-learning on March 31.

According to the National Weather Service at Birmingham, which is located in Calera, there is a risk for severe thunderstorms across Central Alabama late Sunday night through Monday afternoon from approximately 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Threats may include tornadoes, damaging winds of up to 70 mph and large hail up to the size of a golf ball.

NWS encourages residents to have a reliable way to access weather warnings and to have a safe place designated in their homes in the event a storm affects their area and to continue to check for updates.
