CALERA – The Calera Eagles raced ahead to a dominant lead before a steady stream of RBI singles secured their third-straight victory.
Calera defeated McAdory 8-1 on Tuesday, April 1 at the Eagle Sports Complex, building off a 2-1 win over Smiths Station and a 10-2 victory over Leeds to close the Buccaneer Classic.
The Eagles scored six runs in the first two innings to pave their way to victory.
DJ White kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first as he drove home Mac Graham on a two-out RBI single to open up a 1-0 lead.
That preceded a big second inning as Calera got hit by a pair of pitches to start the inning before Aiden Agee walked to load up the bases with no outs. Two batters later, Dalton Ash drew a bases-loaded walk, and a ground out from Jaiden Brown plated another run for the 3-0 lead.
The next two batters were hit by pitches, the latter of which scoring the Eagles’ fourth run and forcing a pitching change from the Jackets. AJ Johnson then finished off the rally with a two-run single to right to take the lead to 6-0.
McAdory responded in the top of the third with an RBI single, driving home a lead-off walk to cut the deficit to 6-1.
That would be the Jackets’ only run of the game as Calera pulled away from there.
After a Brown single and a Graham hit by pitch to start the inning, White and Johnson hit back-to-back singles to increase the lead to 8-1 ahead of the end of the fourth.
Calera held on to that lead throughout the final three innings to take the win.
Johnson finished 2-for-4 with three RBI while White went 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI. Brown also had a multi-hit day as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Graham finished the day with three runs in the win.
Agee took the win by allowing one run in three innings against two hits and one walk while striking out two batters. Ash, Chase Herring, Graham and Brown then took an inning each the rest of the way and didn’t allow a single run.
The Eagles improved to 12-15 overall and will face Wetumpka on the road on Thursday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m.
