HELENA – After a short couple of months of waiting and watching its conversion, Helena residents can prepare their stomachs for a popular food brand that is preparing for business.

Wingstop will open its doors on Monday, April 7 to the public, inviting customers to come in and enjoy its variety of chicken wing flavors, sides and more.

The chicken wing chain is located at 253 Helena Road, Suite E, and takes the place of the former Papa Murphy’s, which closed its doors at the end of 2023. The addition increases the number of popular chains already lining the road, including Chick-fil-A, Freddy’s, Dunkin Donuts, Waffle House and more.

Wingstop was founded in 1994 and has since become a franchise that features a wide variety of known boneless and bone-in wing flavors to go along with other staples such as their chicken sandwich, seasoned fries and other sides.

Customers can keep their wings plain, but can also have them tossed in flavors like Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, Lemon Pepper, Mild, Hickory Smoked BBQ, Sweet Chili Glaze, Spicy Korean Q, Louisiana Rub, Hot Honey Rub, Original Hot, Cajun, Mango Habanero and Atomic. In addition, any chicken sandwich can be made with the wing flavors that are offered.

The restaurant also sells a multitude of fries. Outside of their normal seasoned fries, Wingstop also sells Cheese Fries, Louisiana Voodoo Fries and Buffalo Ranch Fries. Cajun Fried Corn can be ordered with a meal as well.

Wingstop began to offer franchises in 1997, and by 2002, had served one billion wings to the nation. The chain strives to provide customers a flavorful experience with their fresh wings

The state of Alabama currently holds 23 locations of the restaurant scattered throughout many cities.

The Helena location is set to be the second location in Shelby County, with the first one opening in Inverness Corners in 2020. However, this restaurant will be the first take out/to-go location.
