ALABASTER – Small athletes marched down the field together alongside their coaches during the city of Alabaster’s annual Parade of Teams.

Alabaster Parks and Recreation honored local spring sports athletes during the annual Parade of Teams on Saturday, April 5 at Veterans Park from 9-11 a.m. During the parade, fans and family members excitedly sat around field one and enjoyed watching on as the athletes marched in through right field down behind home plate and around third base.

“It was a great way to recognize our youth baseball and softball teams for the 2025 season,” Alabaster Community Programs Manager Morgan Lawley said.

The Parade of Teams took place at 10 a.m. with spring sports games starting at noon and the city’s annual Touch-a-Truck following immediately afterward from 1-5 p.m. in the back parking lot.

During the Parade of Teams, each of the spring baseball and softball teams were announced and sat in the outfield until the opening pitches which were thrown by Thompson High School baseball head coach Frankie Perez and THS softball head coach Kevin Todd. The event also saw participants bow their heads for an invocation and stand for the playing of the national anthem.

“It’s fun to see the excitement in the kids’ eyes as they parade around the field,” Lawley said. “The parents enjoyed seeing their kids as they walked through the parade as well.”

In addition to the parade, attendees were also able to enjoy a selection of family-friendly activities including bounce houses, knockerball, balloon animals and food trucks.

With the spring sports season underway, Alabaster residents will soon have an opportunity to sign up for football and cheer starting on April 28.

“The city is excited about offering youth sports to community, not only for the excitement and fun of the game, but to create friendships that could possibly last a lifetime,” Lawley said.
