ALABASTER – After being open for two years, Ivy League Brew in Alabaster will be closing its doors on Friday, April 18.
In an official Facebook post on Friday, April 4, Ivy League Brew announced its plans to hold its final day of business on April 18.
“Well… some of you already know. In a few short weeks we will be closing,” read the official Facebook post. “(The) 18th of April will be our final day open. Not a whole lot to say, except thank you for all the great memories and fun times. We have developed some awesome friendships through this venture and we hope to carry those on after. Cheers. And farewell Ivy League Brew.”
Until the business’s closure, Mourning Dew will be $4 and its other offerings will be $8 every day. Additionally, a new flavor, Blueberry Lemonade is coming to the business.
Ivy League Brew opened its doors at 633 11th Ave SW, Alabaster, AL 35007 on March 10, 2023 after the owners worked for a year to get the location up to ABC standards.
The business was the brainchild of Matthew Pollard who first began experimenting with different flavors of mead while in the U.S. Army in Germany approximately 15 years ago. Ivy League Brew became the first meadery to be located in central Alabama.
“This is the name we chose because it holds a certain standard of excellence,” read an official Facebook post by the business. “There is something prestigious, inherently in the name Ivy League. We wanted to project that same prestige.”
The owners of Ivy League Brew expressed their gratitude for the patrons that gave the meadery business and provided lasting memories.
“The best part (is) only the best people came here,” read an Facebook post by the business. “We weren’t your local bar that just had anyone seeking a drink. Our customers were of a higher caliber. People who realized they wanted something more out of life. We appreciate that. You are the real representation of who we were. The real pride of Ivy League Brew. It wasn’t the great tasting mead, the end result of drinking it or whatever the event was that happened to grace our presence. It was you. The people that showed up and made this place what it was.”
