PELHAM – After taking a 6-0 win over the Pelham Panthers in the reverse fixture on March 20, the Chelsea Hornets had an even more dominant offensive performance on the road on Thursday, April 10 as they flew out of the gate and took care of business.
Chelsea defeated Pelham 10-0 on the road at Ned Bearden Stadium to sweep the season series between the two area foes.
With the win, Chelsea took sole possession of second place in the area standings with a 3-2 record. That sets up a must-win matchup against Spain Park on Tuesday, April 15 as the only ways the Hornets can clinch a playoff berth are with a win over the Jags or a Briarwood loss to Pelham on Thursday.
Gabi Guillen wasted little time opening up the scoring as she scored off an assist from Harper Carter in the opening minutes of the match to take a 1-0 lead.
From there, Chelsea doubled up the lead in the 10th minute as goalkeeper Payton Walker spotted Adeline Keith on the break along the right side and got the ball to her. Keith then converted the near-post shot for the 2-0 lead.
Guillen scored her second of the game in the 16th minute to make it a 3-0 game. Two minutes later, the Hornets got another chance to add to their lead with a penalty kick. Natalie Peacock slotted the spot kick to put her team up 4-0.
Chelsea continued to press the attack with a pair of strong corners in the 26th and 30th minutes, but the third time proved to be the charm as Carter found Sydney Breedlove on a corner kick for the fifth goal.
Three minutes later, Carter secured her third assist of the half with a ball to Stevie Potaczek, who made it a 6-0 lead.
With mere seconds remaining in the half, Stella Dasilva recovered a cleared corner and fired it from outside the box into the back of the net, securing the 7-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Guillen secured her hat trick five minutes in after sending in a out-of-the-box shot from the left wing to make it an 8-0 game.
After assisting on Guillen’s third goal of the match with a pass as a field player, Walker earned her third assist of the game by finding Dasilva for the ninth goal, putting the Hornets one goal away from earning the mercy-rule win.
That 10th goal came from Peacock as she hit a deflected shot into the back of the net to finish the 10-0 win.
Guillen finished the game with three goals, Peacock had two goals, including a penalty kick, Dasilva secured a brace with two goals and Keith earned a goal and an assist. Walker and Carter each finished with three assists, and Breedlove and Potaczek rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
The Hornets improved to 9-4-5 overall and 3-2 in area play and sit at No. 9 in the Class 6A girls soccer coaches poll. Chelsea will face Spain Park on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. at Spain Park High School in the all-important final game of area play.
The Panthers would go on to beat Helena 2-1 on Saturday, April 12 for the inaugural girls Paws Cup before losing 5-0 to the Benjamin Russell Wildcats on Monday, April 14.
Pelham is now 7-13-2 overall and 0-5 in area play and will finish its 2025 season on the road on Thursday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. against the Briarwood Christian Lions at Lions Pride Stadium.
