HELENA – With the sun shining and the clock ticking down towards Easter Sunday, kids in the city of Helena came together to sprint around in search of eggs at the annual City of Helena Easter Egg Hunt.

The hunt took place on Saturday, April 19 at Joe Tucker Park and was hosted by The Church at Old Town.

Being the fourth edition of the Easter tradition, the emotions rose higher than ever, bringing the most kids to the event that the church had ever seen over its short history and making it a huge success.

“This crowd of preschoolers was triple the amount that we’ve ever seen in years past,” said Gwen Hyde, preschool coordinator at The Church at Old Town. “We are really excited. A lot of families came from the community and our church families were here too. It was just a wonderful time.”

The egg hunt hosted mostly preschoolers, who were 5 years old and under and were not currently in kindergarten. However, the event also contained age-specific egg hunts for kids older than that on the playground through the morning.

For Hyde, being able to share the significance of Easter and spread the word of The Church at Old Town played a huge part in the event, allowing more people in Helena to come and know what they were all about as a church.

“The significance of Easter, the fact that Jesus rose from the dead and that is the true meaning of Easter, we’re thankful to share that, because not everyone knows it,” Hyde said. “For those families in the community that don’t have a church home, we wanted to let them know that they are welcome to come to The Church at Old Town.”

Seeing all of the smiles that the kids and families brought with them throughout the morning, Hyde felt a sense of joy inside of her knowing that the event had become a huge success, even more than it had been in recent years.

“They had so much fun,” Hyde said. “There were great photo opportunities and the weather was beautiful. There were just so many smiles and so many people were so appreciative that we were doing this for the community, so we got a lot of thanks and that they would come back again next year.”

Following the great attendance from this year’s egg hunt, Hyde hopes that its success continues to bring more people in the future as it keeps growing, with the goal of spreading the true meaning of Easter and awareness of The Church at Old Town.
