Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative that kickstarts the celebration of America’s 250th birthday, which will occur on July 4, 2026. Paul Revere’s famous nighttime ride warning of the impending British forces occurred on April 18, 1775, exactly 250 years to the day of this year’s Two Lights for Tomorrow Day.
Households, businesses and government offices were invited to participate in the initiative. Households were invited to light two candles or lanterns in their windows on the evening of April 18, while businesses were invited to display two lights prominently on the same day.
Melanie Poole, the communications officer of American Village, which celebrated the holiday, explained the holiday’s importance and American Village’s connection to it during the city council meeting.
“The American Village in Montevallo has been named by Gov. (Kay) Ivey as the semiquincentennial celebration capital in the state of Alabama,” Poole said. “We’ve also been charged with spearheading or heading up all of the celebrations, events and educational materials (related to the semiquincentennial).”
The Two Lights For Tomorrow Day celebration is just the beginning of the series of events celebrating the 250th anniversary of America, with American Village set to host plenty more in the upcoming months until July 4 of next year.
