CALERA – Local residents will take the stage at the Calera Courtyard to display their talents to the crowd while visitors enjoy a selection of activities during Calera’s Got Talent.

Calera Main Street will host the next installment of its First Friday summer festival series on Friday, May 2 from 6-10 p.m. at the Calera Courtyard. Each First Friday features a different theme and a different sponsor with the ultimate goal of promoting Calera’s historic district and its downtown shops and merchants.

Sponsored by Shelby County Newsmedia, Calera’s Got Talent will feature a night of entertainment that highlights local talent with live performances and music from a DJ to keep the energy high between acts. Guests can also partake in food trucks, games and a series of vendors.

“What makes this one special is that it’s a different type of First Friday than what we’ve done before,” said Dennis Torrealba, president of Calera Main Street. “We’re going to highlight talent in our community, and we’re going to give them a platform to show us their creativity and highlight their unique talents.”

Throughout the evening, residents will take the stage to demonstrate a variety of family-friendly talents such as dancing, singing, cheer, acting, storytelling, music and more.

“The goal of Calera’s Got Talent is to give people a platform to showcase their unique abilities at all different levels,” Torrealba said. “It’s not necessarily a competitive atmosphere but an opportunity for talented individuals to gain organic exposure.”

The May installment of First Friday will also feature a selection food trucks for attendees to enjoy, including Moe and Moore’s BBQ, Uncle G’s Pizza, Momo’s Cajun Eatz and Icee Junkie. Additionally, visitors can take advantage of the businesses located on Calera Main Street, including Adventurer’s Coffee Co., R.O.E. Hobby and Creations Galore and Moore.

Those interesting in displaying their abilities at Calera’s Got Talent can still sign up to perform on May 2 by filling out an application online at Eventeny.com.
