MONTEVALLO – The city of Montevallo held one of its flagship events on Saturday, April 26, bringing together dozens of people for a day of spring fun.

The Spring Fling Family Food Truck Fest, held at the Orr Park Pecan Grove, was organized in a partnership between Montevallo Main Street, Impact Montevallo and DRUM the Program. The event featured food trucks and fun, family-friendly activities.

Courtney Bennett, the executive director of Montevallo Main Street, described the overall atmosphere of the popular event.

“The overall atmosphere of the event was bright and happy, and it made me proud to be part of the Montevallo community,” Bennett said. “We saw a lot of families coming out to enjoy some food, games and beautiful weather.”

According to Bennett, approximately 700 people attended the festival throughout its six-hour duration. While Bennett noted the turnout was smaller than in years previous, she still believes the event was a rousing success.

“The people who attended had a great time,” Bennett said. “We saw a lot of smiling faces, including many parents and grandparents making happy memories with their children and grandchildren. Bringing people together is what it’s all about.”

A total of 13 food trucks attended the event this year, with seven returning from last year’s festival. The following businesses participated in this year’s Spring Fling Family Food Truck Fest:

  • BG’s Mini Donuts
  • C’s Cake & Coffee House
  • Coke sales by Montevallo Athletic Club
  • Crêpe Magic
  • DogNation
  • M&M’s Lemonade Stand
  • Fox & Fredia
  • Taqueria El Camioncito
  • Smokey Joe’s BBQ
  • 2 Fellas and a Flat Top
  • Corn Cab
  • Moe and Moore’s BBQ
  • N’awlins on Wheels

Bennett also described a musical highlight from the event as a crowd pleaser.

“One of my favorite parts was the drumming class led by Abou Sylla with DRUM the Program,” Bennett said. “He is an international traveling artist, and it’s such a treat to experience his work in Montevallo. People of all ages were invited to take a djembe and play along with him as he taught us different rhythms and songs.”

Bennett believes the event was also success considering that it hit its previously established goals of promoting the arts, supporting downtown businesses and providing positive experiences for families, adding that the collaboration between the three entities that planned it added to the event’s success.

“This is the fourth year that Main Street, Impact Montevallo and DRUM the Program have organized this event, which is centrally planned by members of the Main Street Promotion Committee,” Bennett said. “It has grown gradually over the years to accommodate larger crowds… People who came out to Spring Fling had a great time and it was a joy to see the smiles on their faces.”
