BIRMINGHAM – When the Birmingham Stallions line up for their next United Football League game, they’ll have some local flavor in their starting lineup for special teams.

Former Spain Park offensive lineman and long snapper William Mote signed a contract with the hometown Stallions on Monday, April 29 according to a press release from the league office.

Mote fills an immediate hold with Birmingham after the team placed their starting long snapper Ryan Langan on the injured reserve.

At Spain Park, Mote received an All-County Second Team selection in 2018 for his work as a long snapper during his senior season with the Jags. During that season, he helped Spain Park finish the year on a three-game win streak with victories over Oak Mountain, Tuscaloosa County and Shades Valley.

From there, he took his talents to the University of Georgia, where he played all but one game in four seasons for the Bulldogs from 2020 through 2023. The only game he missed was in 2022 when Georgia never punted against Kent State.

During that 2022 season, he was voted an All-SEC Second Team selection by the coaches while playing in 14 of the Bulldogs’ 15 games that season. He would also take the field during Georgia’s College Football Playoff National Championship win over TCU in January 2023.

He took that momentum into his senior season where he played all 14 games for the Bulldogs, including their Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. After starting the season as a Preseason All-SEC Third Team selection, he made the Patrick Mannelly Award and Special Teams U All-American Watch Lists.

Mote capped off his career in a big way with an appearance in the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile as he showcased his skills for NFL coaches. While he was not signed by an NFL team last season, he now has a second chance to make a name for himself in the UFL.

Mote will make his debut for his hometown football team on Sunday, May 4 when the Stallions face the San Antonio Brahmas at Protective Stadium in a UFL Championship rematch. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. and air on FOX. Tickets can be purchased at the Protective Stadium box office.
