SEATTLE – One of the Thompson Warriors’ former standouts on the offensive line has earned a chance to play for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League.

Amari Kight signed a contract as an undrafted free agent with the Seahawks according to an official announcement from the team on Friday, May 2.

Kight earned the opportunity after a successful college career at both Alabama and the University of Central Florida.

Kight transferred to UCF to play for coach Gus Malzahn in 2023 and spent two seasons as a graduate transfer with the Knights, including their first season as a member of the Big 12.

In 2023, he appeared in all 13 games and started 10 games as a right tackle, grading out as the best pass blocker on the team by PFF with an 83.6. That season, he helped UCF rank fourth nationally in rushing offense with 228.2 yards per game and eighth in total offense with 487 yards a game.

Kight would go on to have a successful graduate season with the Knights and end his college career after five years of playing and six years total as an enrolled student.

Before then, Kight worked his way into playing time at Alabama by his redshirt freshman season in 2020. He then played seven games on the line in 2021, including an appearance off the bench in the College Football Playoff Semifinal game against Cincinnati at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

Kight served as a backup left tackle in 2022 and played in 12 games on both the line and on special teams with the field goal and PAT units before transferring to UCF in 2023.

In high school, Kight was a standout offensive lineman for Thompson while laying the foundation for the Warriors’ current run of five state championships in the last six seasons under coach Mark Freeman.

Ranked as a consensus four-star, Kight was a two-time All-State First Team selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as an offensive tackle. He helped guide the Warriors to a semifinal appearance in 2017 and a runner-up finish in Class 7A as a senior in 2018.

In addition to his All-State recognition, Kight was selected as an Alabama All-Star and played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in addition to the Under Armour All-American Game.

ESPN ranked Kight as the fourth-best player in Alabama in the Class of 2019 and was the No. 8 offensive tackle and No. 30 player in the ESPN300. He was also nationally ranked by 247Sports, Rivals and PrepStar.

Now, Kight will vie for a spot on the 53-man final roster for the Seahawks in their second season under head coach Mike Macdonald and play in the National Football League.
