CHELSEA ­­– Following a few months of development and construction along the Highway 280 corridor, the city of Chelsea can begin heavily anticipating another eating establishment that will fulfill their hunger.

Waffle House will open its doors to the public on Friday, May 16, allowing customers from the Chelsea area and beyond to sit down at any time of day and enjoy a quick and easy meal.

Located at Atchison Drive, the new Waffle House will sit next to Big Drip Auto Spa, and is a brand-new development that will not replace anything. The addition increases the number of new businesses that sit along that portion of the highway, including both Big Drip and the La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Waffle House was established in 1955 in Georgia, and has since become a staple restaurant of the United States. Known for its 24-hour service, the chain is known for its wide variety of breakfast food and other menu items and was founded on the principal of having the friendliest service in town.

Customers can walk in at any time and order any of Waffle House’s signature breakfast meals, including their renowned All-Star Special, any of their hashbrown bowls, sandwiches and melts, classic waffles and more.

Outside of breakfast items, the restaurant also cooks numerous lunch and dinner items, such as their burgers, sandwiches, steak and chicken, as well as the lunch and dinner versions of their hashbrown bowls and melts.

During a regularly scheduled meeting in November 2023, the Chelsea City Council approved an economic incentive package for Waffle House and HCI Chelsea, LLC, supporting its efforts to bring the famous chain to the city.

Currently, Waffle House holds more than 1,900 locations in 25 different states across the country, with 157 of them being located in the state of Alabama.

The Chelsea location will be the second Waffle House to go in Shelby County along the Hwy. 280 corridor, with the other one being located in Greystone.
