WETUMPKA – Indian Springs School punched their ticket to the Final Four with one of its biggest statements of the season, taking an 18-0 Elmore County Panthers team and making short work of them.
Indian Springs defeated Elmore County 10-0 on Friday, May 2 at the Wetumpka Sports Complex in the Class 5A quarterfinals to return to Huntsville for the first time since their title in 2022.
Neither team could break through in the opening 15 minutes, but Springs scored shortly after that and kept the goals coming from there.
Indian Springs dominated in every aspect of the offense from set pieces to counterattacks to deep shots to add to the lead throughout the match.
Simone Bermudez, Violet Levine, Federica Le and Savannah Shubert were crucial in the buildup as they won tackles and sent important passes forward to set up the attack for success.
Caitlyn Yang frequently found the back of the net and scored a team-high four goals. She wasn’t the only one to secure a hat trick though as Ellie Lynn Martin earned three goals in the win.
Ashna Mehra made it three Springs players with multiple goals, scoring two on the night, and Mia Phillips also scored a goal.
Phoebe Evans stopped a flurry of deep shots from Elmore County to earn 10 saves and secure the clean sheet. Kennedy Doyle, Sherilyn Kau, Abigail White and Paula Kube helped out Evans along the back line to secure their 12th shutout of the season and fourth-straight clean sheet.
That defensive performance helped Indian Springs end the game at the hour mark with its 10th unanswered goal, triggering the mercy rule for the quarterfinal win.
Springs will now look to keep their momentum rolling on Wednesday, May 7 at 9 a.m. when they take on the St. Michael Catholic Hawks at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.
