PELHAM – Russell Platt, a Pelham resident, father and digital marketing professional, has officially announced his candidacy for Pelham City Council.
Platt is running for Place 5 within the council, currently held by Michael Harris. Harris is running for reelection for the position, with Pelham’s municipal elections set for Tuesday, August 26.
Platt moved to Pelham in 2021, and was inspired to run for the position within the City Council after a recent trip to Washington, D.C. On the trip to D.C., Platt witnessed a congressional hearing that left him deeply concerned about a perceived lack of rational, constructive dialogue in government.
“I realized then that I could do better, and that starts here at home,” Platt said. “Pelham deserves calm, thoughtful leadership focused on real issues, not political drama.”
Education is one of the cornerstones of Platt’s platform, as he is the parent of a student at Pelham Oaks Elementary. Through this experience, he has seen firsthand both the strengths and the needs within the school system.
“Smart education policy starts with strong appointments to our Board of Education, and that means a process rooted in transparency and fairness,” Platt said.
Platt is also focused on emphasizing intentional city growth and improved government transparency. He manages over $45 million in digital advertising campaigns annually and has served in leadership roles across multiple sectors.
“Good government works like a well-run business with steady leadership, clear systems and a commitment to the people it serves,” Platt said.
Platt also made the decision to self-fund his campaign, explaining why in a statement.
“I’m not accepting any donations,” Platt said. “That’s not a stunt, it’s a signal. I’m not running for influence, and no one’s pulling my strings.”
Platt’s campaign slogan, “No Drama. No Strings. Just Pelham.” aims to reflect his commitment to accountability and level-headed leadership.
