MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo City Council met at a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 28 to discuss a range of matters affecting the city of Montevallo.
The meeting began with a rundown of the items on the agenda, including a resolution authorizing the investment of city reserve funds into certificates of deposit. This move aims to secure stable returns for the city’s financial reserves.
“This was something that comes to the council from the finance committee,” City Clerk and Treasurer Steve Gilbert said. “This is a way to grow capital reserves in (multiple) areas. As you know, the cost of doing business goes up, and this is one way to make this money work for us a little better.”
The resolution authorizing the investment of city reserve funds into certificates of deposit passed unanimously.
The council also reviewed new design proposals for rebranding city vehicles and public facilities, including those operated by Public Works, Parks and Recreation and City Hall. Gilbert outlined the logistics of the new branding on the vehicles.
“We wanted something that was a little bit more branding oriented and recognizable than the city seal,” Gilbert said. “The cost on these, if we have them installed, is about $100 per vehicle… You want something that’s immediately recognizable and easy to identify (in branding).”
The resolution for rebranding city vehicles and public facilities was tabled for the next Montevallo City Council meeting.
Additionally, the council reviewed and approved a request to move its second monthly meeting in May from Monday, May 26 to Tuesday, May 27 due to the regularly scheduled meeting falling on Memorial Day. The council also heard committee reports on public health and safety, sustainability, recreation and community development, education and outreach and finance and economic development throughout the city.
