Locals selected to All-Metro girls soccer team as Leib, Oldfield, Doyle earn individual honors

County athletes once again dominated the rosters of the All-Metro girls soccer teams when they were released on Monday, May 12, including three of the county’s top players who received individual honors.
Taylor Leib of the Briarwood Christian Lions received Player of the Year honors for A Division while Reese Oldfield of the Spain Park Jaguars earned Co-Captain honors. Indian Springs’ Kennedy Doyle joined them as Co-Captain on the B Division team.
In addition, Briarwood received the A Division’s Sportsmanship Award.
Like in previous years, the All-Metro teams were divided into A and B Divisions. Local teams in the A Division included Briarwood, the Chelsea Hornets, Oak Mountain Eagles, Spain Park and the Thompson Warriors, who joined Hewitt-Trussville, Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills.
The B Division included the Calera Eagles, Helena Huskies, Indian Springs, Pelham Panthers and Westminster School at Oak Mountain Knights in addition to Carver-Birmingham, Gardendale, Huffman, John Carroll Catholic, Pell City, Pinson Valley, Shades Valley and Springville.
Spain Park led all county teams with six selections. Oldfield was selected to the First Team as a forward along with midfielder Addy Soehn and defender Gianna Thornton. Midfielder Morgan Anthony earned Second Team honors while defender Addison Bayne and goalkeeper Morgan Pritchett took home Honorable Mentions.
Oak Mountain midfielder Kati Anne Shepherd and defender Marley Brown were both selected for the First Team. Midfielder Elle Cherry and defender Faith Harrell each earned Honorable Mentions.
The state champion Briarwood Lions saw Leib make the First Team as a forward, midfielder Brooklyn Barnett and forward Taylor Matthews secure Second Team spots and midfielder Ellie Rushing and defender Saylor Eighmy earn Honorable Mentions.
Chelsea had three A-Division Second Team selections, including midfielder Natalie Peacock and defenders Stella Dasilva and Laura Russell. Midfielder Gabi Guillen secured an Honorable Mention.
Thompson midfielder Luna Montiel-Duenas and defender Charli Gantt were both selected for the Second Team. Midfielder Dia Montiel-Duenas and defender Guilia Wekesa each received Honorable Mentions.
Over in B Division, Calera was represented on the First Team by Brianna Collier and on the Second Team by midfielder Jackie Martinez.
Helena forward Baileigh Rumage made the B-Division First Team while midfielder Kate Hendrix secured a Second Team spot and defender Addison Foxworth made the Honorable Mention list.
Indian Springs had two First Team selections in Doyle as a defender as well as forward Ashna Mehra. Simone Bermudez and Caitlyn Yang each made the Second Team as midfielders.
Pelham’s Claire Robinson was selected as a defender for the B-Division First Team while goalkeeper Marley Barfield made the Second Team and defender Natalie Bunch was selected as an Honorable Mention.
For Westminster OM, senior goalkeeper Lailie Parvin earned First Team Honors, forward Vale Richie was selected to the Second Team and midfielder Mackenzie Varden made the Honorable Mention list.
As for the other awards, Vestavia Hills’ Brigid Meadow won A Division Coach of the Year for helping the Rebels win the Class 7A state championship in her final season as head coach. Mountain Brook midfielder Langston Lilly joined Oldfield as a Co-Captain for the A Division First Team.
In the B Division, Huffman’s Dentay Daniels won Coach of the Year for taking the Vikings from a 2-8-1 record in 2024 to a 17-6 mark with a playoff appearance this year in Class 6A.
Springville’s Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga earned Player of the Year while Pell City’s Katie Shadix shared Co-Captain honors with Doyle. Shades Valley earned the B Division’s Sportsmanship Award.
