Jennifer Maier, operator of the Shelby County Museum and Archives, shares what she loves about Columbiana.
A place for history
Shelby County Museum and Archives
At the heart of Columbiana is the Old 1854 Courthouse, home to the Shelby County Museum & Archives. As Executive Director, serving as the caretaker of the county’s history is a great honor. With records dating back to 1818, the museum is a treasure trove of information and artifacts that tell the fascinating story of Shelby County.
A center for the arts
Shelby County Arts Council
I’m so impressed by Shelby County Arts Council because it offers something for everyone. From top-notch performances in the Song Theater to beautifully curated art exhibits, community outreach programs, and diverse arts education classes, it has become a destination that adds so much value to Columbiana.
Eat local
Columbiana’s great food scene
I love that I can grab a great cup of coffee and a fresh salad at Leaders’ Corner Coffee and Tea or treat myself to the best hamburgers and milkshakes at Davis Drug Snack Bar, all within walking distance of the museum.
Main Street living
Charming old houses around town
I love the beautiful old houses in Columbiana, many of which have been lovingly restored by their owners. They give the town so much character and a sense of connection to its history.
As local as it gets
Welcoming small businesses
Columbiana has great small businesses, like The Farm Company, Amazing Flowers & Occasions, Just A Tish, and Davis Drug Gift Shop. I’m always greeted with a warm welcome by the owners, and I can always find great gifts for family and friends.
