Waffle House opens new location in Chelsea

CHELSEA – A young boy proudly wearing his new Waffle House hat chatted happily with one of the employees and gave him a hug before leaving with a full stomach during the opening day of the new Waffle House in Chelsea.

The newest Waffle House location in Shelby County is open off of U.S. 280 on Atchison Drive near several of the city’s newest additions such as Scooter’s Coffee, Big Drip Auto Spa and La Quinta by Windham. The business was projected to open on Friday, May 16 but opened its doors early on Tuesday, May 13.

News of a Waffle House coming to the city of Chelsea broke in November 2023 when the city approved an economic incentive for HCI Chelsea LLC to support the effort. The Chelsea Waffle House marks the second to come to the 280 corridor with the first located at 5419 U.S. 280, Birmingham, AL 35244.

Waffle House currently offers 157 different locations in the state of Alabama with seven locations now found across Shelby County. There are more than 1,900 locations spread across 25 different states in the country.

Established in 1955 in Georgia by Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forker, Waffle House it known for its policy of being open 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Its menu offers a variety of breakfast dishes, including its signature All-Star Special featuring a waffle, eggs, toast and jelly, meat of choice and option of grits or hashbrowns.

In addition to numerous breakfast items, Waffle House also offers a selection of lunch and dinner items such as burgers, sandwiches, steak and chicken and more.
