PELHAM – Pelham High School recognized another large signing class at its spring signing day ceremony on Monday, May 19 at the PHS gym as nine more athletes will continue their academic and athletic careers collegiately.

Egypt Daniel, Javian Gee, Eli Lewis, Blake Woodall, Jett Hopwood, Kennedy Smith, Kamryn Rouveyrol, Jake Garner and Salvador Jimenez all signed their written offers of athletic aid in front of their friends, family, teammates and coaches.

Daniel and Lewis will both represent the men’s basketball program at the next level. Daniel signed to play at Cleveland State Community College and was grateful for the many people who got him to achieve his goals.

“I want to thank my coaches for everything they’ve done for me, my family and my teammates for pushing me through every day and practice,” Lewis said.

Lewis signed to play at Bethel University and was thanked those in attendance who took time out of their day to celebrate with him.

“I just want to thank y’all for coming and supporting all of us today,” Lewis said. “And I’m also thankful to my coaches, to God, my family and to everyone who has helped me get to where I’m going.”

Pelham baseball also had multiple signees as Woodall will play at Bevill State Community College and Hopwood will continue his career at Stillman College.

Hopwood expressed his gratitude to the many people who built him up and have him the opportunity to play collegiately.

“I’d like to thank my family for supporting me in my athletic goals,” Hopwood said. “Special thanks to my coaches for working with me to build good sportsmanship and character and a relationship with everyone. I look forward to this opportunity to continue to play the game of baseball.”

Woodall was similarly thankful to God, his family, friends and members of the Pelham athletic staff for all they did.

“I want to start off by thanking God for giving me the opportunity to continue to play the game that I love,” Woodall said. “I’d also like to thank my mom, my dad, my family and my friends for supporting my athletic goals. Special thanks to all my coaches and trainers throughout the years.”

Woodall isn’t the only member of his class who will play at Bevill State as Rouveyrol signed to play volleyball at the school.

She was glad to have signed alongside multiple classmates and do so with her coaches in attendance.

“I’m glad that I get to sign with everyone,” Rouveyrol said. “It’s very important to me because it just kind of shows my next journey coming up, and I get to do it in front of my coach that’s going to be my coach next year. So, it’s really cool that everyone can just get together and my past coach, they can meet together.”

Gee was one of two football players to sign to play at the next level. He will take his talents to Bluefield University to play for the Rams.

Gee thanked his teammates for always having his back and lifting him up through a difficult season.

“They helped with everything,” Gee said of his teammates. “We had a losing season, they would tap me on my head, help me keep my head up.”

Garner was the lone Division I signee of the group as he will play stay locally and play kicker for Samford.

He thanked his trainers, family and football and soccer teammates in his speech but took time to tell his coaches just how much they’ve helped him grow in the past four years.

“All the coaches have had a tremendous impact on my life,” Garner said. “I came in as a scrawny freshman. I’m still scrawny now, but I’m four years older, I learned a lot, seen a lot. So, I just I’m forever grateful for y’all for pushing me to get to this point in my life.”

Jimenez will also stay in-state to represent the boys soccer program at Spring Hill. He thanked his parents for their sacrifices to help him play collegiate soccer.

“To my parents, thank you for taking the time out of your lives to drive me on road trips and spending money on the equipment that I needed,” Jimenez said. “Thank you all for believing in me. You sacrificed so much so that I could chase my dreams and give me the strength to fight every single day and the courage to be who I am.”

Smith will have the opportunity to cheer collegiately at Huntingdon College. She said it is the culmination of years of hard work and dreams to get to continue cheerleading in college.

“It means I’ve accomplished everything I’ve been shooting for since kindergarten,” Smith said.
