FROM STAFF REPORTS
Jefferson State Manufacturing Students committed to several of Alabama’s leading manufacturing companies during the Magic City Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education Chapter signing day ceremony on May 9.
“By signing, these students will gain valuable employment experience with manufacturing leaders while completing their associate degree,” read an official press release by Jefferson State Community College.
At the event on May 9, manufacturing students signed with companies—including MacLean Power Systems of Alabaster—for employment during their studies.
The FAME program provides hands-on experience while also providing time for students to complete a two-year associates degree. During the program, students receive formal classroom training two days per week and work onsite at the sponsoring company three days a week. The program focuses on professional presence, lean manufacturing acumen, and technical skill attainment. After graduation, students will be ready to enter the workforce full time with the skills needed to be successful—and with the potential of no school debt.
The FAME program directly addresses the need for skilled welders, machinists and industrial maintenance technicians in central Alabama. The program partners industry with area employees for work-based learning opportunities that focus on high-demand skills and credentials needed for successful manufacturing careers.
Participating students can earn as much as $33,500 over two years, which with planning can cover all of a student’s education expenses. There are also potential grants and financial aid for participating students. Graduates of the program will be equipped with needed skills and experience that many manufacturing companies are actively seeking.
FAME provides global-best workforce development through strong technical training, integration of manufacturing core competencies, intensive professional practices and intentional hands-on experience to build the future of the modern manufacturing industry.
