The time has come for the start of a new season for many. With graduation having come and gone and students having wrapped up the school year, those around Shelby County enter the summer festivities, which bring along many exciting activities for all ages.

Memorial Day too place on Monday, May 26, allowing for those around not just the county, but the entirety of the United States, to celebrate those who lost their lives fighting for the great country we live in today. Father’s Day comes forth on Sunday, June 15 as we celebrate the great father figures in our lives that helped raise us to be the people we are today. Later on, Independence Day comes around as the country continues to near its 250th birthday, turning 249 this year.

Outside of some of the great holidays that come around in the summer, other events include Liberty Day, as well as Sunset Music and Market happening in Columbiana. In Calera, take advantage of the city’s First Friday celebration on the first Friday of each month over the course of the summer. In July, take advantage of the many Independence Day festivities around the county like the Big Kaboom in Chelsea, Fire on the Water in Pelham or the Fireworks Show in Alabaster.

The summer is not just for the adults, as the county offers a multitude of events for the kids such as the annual Vacation Bible School series offered by local churches or the sports camps offered by athletic programs to get kids active.

No matter what your family chooses this summer, Shelby County has a lot to showcase in the summer season while you take a step back into relaxation. We hope you enjoy the start of this time of year and take advantage of it while it’s here.
