CALERA – With school officially out for summer, the city of Calera has announced a Summertime Bingo Program to entertain local families and help participants keep track of all the summer activities the city has planned.

Available for download at Cityofcalera.org, the bingo sheet allows participants to keep track of a variety of events. According to an official press release by the city, the goal of the initiative is to help parents keep their children active and entertained while also supporting local businesses.

“We wanted to create a program that makes it easy for families to have fun together without the high cost of travel or entertainment,” said James Fuller, IT director and Bingo program creator. “Summertime Bingo is a great way to explore our community, attend exciting events and to support our local merchants, all while being mindful of spending.”

A few highlights from the bingo sheet include the following activities:

• Movies in the Park: Free outdoor movies at the Calera Track and Field Complex on June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25 and Aug. 8
• Library S.T.E.A.M. classes and movie matinees: S.T.E.A.M. events are set for June 5, June 12 and June 26 at 2 p.m. Movie matinees are planned for June 3, June 10, June 17 and June 24 at 10 a.m.
• Crafts and paint parties: Hands-on art activities at the Roy Downs Memorial Calera Library
• Disc golf and pickleball: Check out the city’s new pickleball court at Rolling Hills
• Independence Day fireworks: Join Calera for an Independence Day celebration on July 4 at 6 p.m. with fireworks, vendors, food and more
• Back to School Bash: Join Calera Main Street for its final First Friday of the year at the Back to School Bash on Friday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m.

Participants in the Summertime Bingo Program who complete activities listed can win prizes. The bingo card also features coupons for several participating Calera businesses, including the following:

• Creation Galore and Moore: a free cupcake or scoop of ice cream with purchase
• M3 Endeavors: Free introductory Pilates class
• Fuzzy Butts Pet Supply: 10 percent off anything in the store
• Golden Glow Salon: 20 percent off hair service with Kylee
• Winged Blossoms: 20 percent off coupon on one gift store purchase
• Adventurer’s Coffee Co.: Buy one get one 50 percent off on all drinks
