HELENA – Holding a few months of experience in the position and being the newest face to the council, Andy Healy has officially announced his plans to campaign to retain his spot in Place 2 of the Helena City Council.
Healy announced his running in an official Facebook post on Thursday, May 29, informing the public of his excitement to campaign with the hope of keeping a spot on the body for his first full term.
Having moved to Helena in 2010, Healy is originally from Mobile, Alabama, and when he moved to the city, he felt as if he had found a perfect spot to call his new home.
The incumbent has a background in business management and is a veteran of the United States Army, which he shared played a big role in teaching him how to serve the people, and the art of both discipline and leadership.
Because of the roles that he has served in in the past, Healy believes he is prepared to continue serving in his position in the best way possible for the city of Helena.
“I believe in being straightforward and honest,” read an official Facebook post by Andy Healy. “I’ve never been one to follow the crowd, and I will always speak the truth—even when it’s difficult. I’m not here to play politics; I’m here to serve this community with integrity and dedication.”
Healy was appointed to the Helena City Council during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 following an interview conducted in December 2024. He applied for the position as a result of former City Council member Chris VanCleave stepping down due to health concerns.
Prior to taking a spot on the municipal governing body, Healy has served on the TAG Grant committee. He also has a heavy background within the community, having served as president of the Helena Business Association, helping to organize Helena’s First Friday events, acting as an ambassador with the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and providing support towards numerous local charities.
Due to his history of being involved in local affairs, Healy feels he has extensive knowledge in many areas and strives to place priority on improving infrastructure, transparent governing, support for the youth and their education, support for the seniors and investing in the arts, culture and recreation.
“If elected, I will work tirelessly for every resident of Helena,” Healy said. “I will listen to your concerns, advocate for your needs and champion policies that benefit our families and future.”
Healy feels that running for a place on the body is not a task that should be taken lightly, and having been chosen already during the appointment interviews, hopes that he can be reelected and continue serving the city.
“I’m not just running for a seat on the City Council—I’m running to serve,” Healy said “Together we can build a city that works for everyone. I humbly ask for your support, your voice and your vote. Let’s move Helena forward, together.”
The Helena City Council will see at least three new faces be selected this cycle as Chris Willis, Laura Joseph and Hewy Woodman are not seeking reelection for the coming term. Mayor Brian Puckett’s seat is also up for grabs.
The municipal election for the city of Helena will take place on Aug. 26, and anyone wishing to learn more about Healy’s campaign can follow his Facebook page at Andy Healy Helena City Council Place 2.
