AUBURN – One of Alabaster’s finest continued to make his name on the collegiate baseball stage with another standout performance for the Auburn Tigers.
Thompson alum D’Marion “Bub” Terrell was named the Most Valuable Player of the Auburn Regional on Sunday, June 1st after the Tigers finished a perfect 3-0 to advance to Super Regionals.
Terrell finished off the tournament with a 4-for-5 performance against NC State with two runs and two RBI. That included a fourth-inning RBI single to make the lead 4-0 ahead of an 11-1 victory in the regional finals.
Terrell also scored runs in both of the first two games of regionals. He finished 2-for-3 in the opening game of regionals against Central Connecticut State with three RBI and a run. Terrell also had three RBI in a 2-for-3 showing against Stetson on Saturday.
That gave him a total stat line for the weekend of 8-for-11 with eight RBI and three runs.
His performances brought up his season-long batting average to .309 with a .380 on-base percentage and .474 slugging percentage. He has 41 RBI and five home runs on the season across 194 at-bats.
Terrell immediately made an impact for coach Butch Thompson’s Tigers after a torrid finish to his high school career with Thompson.
Terrell was the 2024 Shelby County Hitter of the Year and a First Team selection to both the Class 7A All-State and All-County teams. He finished with a .426 average thanks to his 42 RBI, 41 runs, 10 home runs and 10 doubles. He was also 18-for-19 on stolen base attempts.
As a result, Terrell was drafted in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. However, Terrell opted to honor his commitment to Auburn and play college baseball while raising his draft stock for future years.
Spain Park alum Cole Edwards was also part of Auburn’s regional champion team. He did not see the field in any of the three games.
The Tigers will host No. 13 Coastal Carolina in the Auburn Super Regional from June 6-8 at Plainsman Park. The winner of the best-of-three series will advance to the 2025 Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Neb. It is the first time in program history that Auburn will host a Super Regional.
