PELHAM – The Pelham City Schools Board of Education held a specially called meeting on Wednesday, June 4 at the central office to review various items ahead of the upcoming school year.

During the session, board members reviewed and approved a series of procurement contracts for the 2025-2026 school year, including agreements for groceries with Osborne Foodservice, milk with Forestwood Farms and produce with Regional Produce. These contracts ensure that PCS’s nutritional programs run smoothly and are well-stocked for students across all schools.

In addition to procurement approvals, the board approved several personnel changes, including the hiring of Haley Troup as Pelham High School’s new head girls basketball coach. The board approved seven resignations and retirements, four employments, one transfer and one non-renewal.

With the PCS system having several job openings still available for teachers, PCS superintendent Chuck Ledbetter provided an update to the board.

“We have interviews still taking place, with several (candidates) being interviewed this week,” Ledbetter said. “We will have many of those filled at the next meeting.”

The board also approved additional summer work days for two teachers and the recruitment of summer workers to support students during the break.

Other approved items included supplements for PCS’s special education programs and an amendment to the budget for the 2025 fiscal year.

The meeting also was a milestone for several board members, as it was the first official meeting with Robert Plummer and Shannon White in their new roles as president and vice president of the board.

The meeting was also Bob Lavett’s first as a board member. Lavett replaced Angie Hester, who retired from her position as both president of the board and representative on Place 2 this year. Lavett will be formally recognized at the BOE’s next meeting on Monday, June 30.

“Welcome, Bob,” Plummer said. “We appreciate your willingness to serve, and we look forward to having a full ceremony. We will miss Angie, but we look forward to your participation.”
