ALABASTER – Alabaster City Council member Rick Ellis has announced his bid for reelection as representative for Ward 2.

Ellis was first elected to serve on the Alabaster City Council in 2016 and was subsequently reelected in 2020. He has been a resident of Ward 2 since 2001 and has participated in various community roles, including as a volunteer softball coach and baseball coach for the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department.

“I would like to announce that I will be seeking re-election for my third term as your Alabaster city councilman for Ward 2,” Ellis said. “For the past nine years, it has been my privilege to serve the citizens of this community, Ward 2 and my neighbors and friends. I am very proud to work alongside my peers creating a safe, productive community for the residents of Alabaster which includes my own family.”

Ellis’ wife, Kristy, is a teacher for Alabaster City School and his youngest daughter, Allie, is starting her junior year at Thompson High School and his oldest daughter, Nora, is a third-generation THS graduate from the class of 2024.

“The relationship between the city of Alabaster and Alabaster City Schools is a top priority for me,” Ellis said. “I hope to continue working closely with our city school system to build academic and athletic champions.”

Ellis shared that he is proud of the work that has been accomplished with the addition of Patriots Park to the city in Ward 2 which includes playgrounds, green spaces, covered pavilions, basketball and pickleball courts and a new mural.

“During my time in office, the council has worked with the mayor and city administrators to grow commerce and make visible improvements in Alabaster,” Ellis said.  “During the past nine years, we have built a much-needed, state-of-the-art police station, that has become an incredible addition to this city and well-deserved. We have also recently added Alabaster’s own ambulance service, which continues to add to the safety and security our residents need.”

The city has also seen renovations take place at Veterans Park, “Peanut” Davenport Field and Larry Simmons Stadium.

“Seeing our residents use and enjoy these parks, and having visitors from all over playing on our fields fills me with pride,” Ellis said. “When I first campaigned for this position nine years ago, I committed to looking for ways to make Alabaster a family-centered community where our children can grow and play safely. I am proud of the changes we have already made and excited about the things still to come.”

Ellis shared that he is eagerly anticipating the several projects that the city currently has in development, including the upcoming new recreation center and library which will be located on the corner of Thompson Road and Highway 119.

“Thank you for your endless support throughout the years, and I hope you will continue to place your faith in me for the next four years and reelect me to represent you again for Ward 2 in August,” Ellis said.

The municipal election for the city of Alabaster will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
