After previously winning Player of the Year in their respective classifications, Aiden Hughes and Aiden Poe have one last award to add to their high school resumes.
Hughes and Poe were named to the Super All-State baseball team on Sunday, June 8 at the annual Alabama Sports Writers Association convention banquet.
The Super All-State team comprises the top 10 players in each sport regardless of classification. With Hughes and Poe making the list, 20 percent of the Super All-State selections hail from Shelby County.
They are the first local Super All-State baseball selections since Thompson’s Landon Alton in 2023.
Hughes won Class 6A Player of the Year for his two-way success during Chelsea’s state runner-up season. He earned the best ERA in Shelby County at 0.94 and had a 1.08 WHIP with 11.6 strikeouts per seven innings.
At the plate, he earned a .447 average at the plate with a .529 on-base percentage.
Poe makes his first Super All-State team after winning his second individual award from the ASWA, first the Class 2A Pitcher of the Year in 2024 and then Player of the Year in 2025. He racked up a county-high 128 strikeouts on the mound against just 16 walks and earned a 12-1 record, 1.19 ERA and 0.82 WHIP.
In addition to his success on the mound, the Air Force signee finished with a .450 average, .563 on-base percentage and .661 slugging percentage thank to his 49 hits, 35 RBI, 10 doubles and three home runs.
On top of their Super All-State selections, both players were named Shelby County Pitchers of the Year and made the All-County First Team as well as the All-State First Team for their respective classifications.
The ASWA announced the Super All-State softball team and the winners of multiple individual awards alongside the Super All-State baseball team.
Hewitt-Trussville star and projected first round MLB Draft pick Steele Hall won Mr. Baseball, Curry’s Ambrey Taylor, the state’s all-time doubles leader, was named Miss Softball and Fruitdale’s Sid Hobbs won the Jimmy Smothers Courage Award for hitting .444 while playing through his seventh cancer diagnosis.
