CHELSEA – With smiling faces and joy spreading to all, children in Chelsea took part in many activities during the fourth annual Liberty Baptist Church Vacation Bible School.
Liberty Baptist Church held its VBS from June 2-6, with the camp adopting the True North theme and centering it around the concept of “trusting Jesus in a wild world.”
According to Director of Preschool and Kids Ministries Ashley Cox, the week resulted in a great turnout by the kids, changing the lives of some for the better.
“We had 28 kids make a decision to follow Jesus which was incredible,” Cox said. “It’s all worth it even for one, but 28 is fantastic.”
During the series, the kids at the VBS learned about how they trust Jesus no matter how they are feeling, especially through all of the rigors that life presents.
“The kids each day learned that when we feel alone we can trust Jesus, when we need hope we can trust Jesus,” Cox said. “It goes through different themes and there’s a verse for every day.”
The days all started with the elementary kids coming together to learn about the theme and verse of the day to get them in a positive and energetic mood, allowing them to showcase their excitement for the morning to come.
“For preschool and for kids, after they check in, we have an opening celebration where they come in and they learn the song, the bible verse, the main point,” Cox said. “They have like a funny skit that happens that just gets them hyped for the day. They do that first and then they go through rotations to different stations.”
Following the opening celebrations, the kids participated in various sessions, including playing games, having snack time and learning a Bible story. On top of that, preschoolers had a time for crafts, while elementary kids went through an imagination session, where they learned about God through science experiments. The kids also had dress up days, which saw them where crazy hats, dress like lumberjacks, celebrate Christmas and wear their crew color.
In its fourth year, Liberty Baptist saw a record-high 503 kids register, which made the staff super happy about how the camp is expanding.
“I think the community getting excited about it is awesome,” Cox said. “The church owns it a lot more every year because I have more people that are like, ‘Hey, when VBS comes sign me up.’ I have people asking early. And this year we have 150 more registrations than we did last year. I think word is getting out and that’s awesome because we have 500 kids that are hearing about Jesus.”
Cox mentioned that with the VBS growing as rapidly as it is, she is proud knowing she has a great support staff working with her each and every year, making the event successful and memorable for all those who attend.
“The Liberty staff, it’s all hands on deck, everybody is participating and we had a huge turn out,” Cox said. “We have anywhere 190 and 200 leaders that have come through. They range from sixth grade through senior adults. They’re just here, some of them are every single day, some of them are only a couple days a week, but I have just all ages. I couldn’t do it without them, it’s amazing.”
