HELENA – The Helena City Council candidate pool has another member as Dominga Gardner has announced her candidacy for Place 1.

“I’m excited to share that I will be seeking office for City Council in Helena in the upcoming election on Aug. 26, 2025. As a proud resident, coach and community advocate, I believe in the power of service, unity, and progress,” Dominga said in a Facebook post. “Helena is my home, and I’m committed to making sure every voice is heard. This journey is about us: our families, our values and our future. I humbly ask for your support as we work together to build a stronger Helena.”

“Inclusion, investment and impact,” are the main points of Gardner’s campaign. Serving others is something she has a large amount of experience in, volunteering in multiple ways throughout the community.

“Dominga Gardner is deeply rooted in service, always striving to uplift her community, empower youth and foster positive change through education, mentorship, and action,” read a post on Gardner’s campaign website.

Living in Helena since 2006, Gardner has seen the effect the community can have on children as both of her kids are products of Helena’s schools.

“Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow. They’re the change makers of today,” Gardner said in a campaign Facebook post. “That’s why I’m committed to building a mentorship program right here in Helena, connecting young people with role models, life skills and leadership opportunities.”

Gardner is no stranger to public service, having 18 years of experience in the Jefferson County Merit System under her belt. She has invested in students as well, previously serving as an adjunct professor at Miles College. Additionally, she coaches track and field throwers at Helena Middle and High School and in the YMCA volleyball program.

Gardner’s plan to establish a mentorship program comes from her desire to make sure every child in Helena has the opportunity to develop the needed skills to excel in anything they choose to pursue.

“When we invest in our youth, we invest in Helena’s future,” Gardner said. “When we embrace inclusion, we ensure no child is left behind.”

Gardner’s commitment to serving Helena’s youth fueled her decision to enter the race, as developing the youth can pay dividends in the community for many years to come.

“Together, we’ll create a city where every young voice is heard, guided and empowered,” Gardner said.

The Municipal Election is set to take place on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
