HELENA – The community was ready for an exciting night out at Helena’s Old Town Live on Saturday, June 14, but the weather had other plans.

“To all my amazing Helena humans, and those that traveled for the June Old Town Live, we apologize for the cancellation,” Helena Old Town said in a Facebook post. “The absolute deluge of rain we experienced until about 7 p.m. and continued forecast of rain and lightning coming in about an hour later led us to act in the artist’s and public safety (interest) at that time. It’s never easy to make that call, and thankfully we have never had to, even with outdoor shows.”

After initially delaying the start from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Helena Old Town decided to pull the plug on the event. However, the performing artists booked for the event, Fuller, Cotter Hill and headliner Adam Doleac, stuck around to play on the Davidson Stage.

“The people that braved the rain from the beginning got to experience a very special night,” the Facebook post added. “Thank you all for your understanding and we know it stinks but when life gives you lemons…”

The members of the community who managed to make it out despite the weather still had an enjoyable evening with those close to them.

“It was an amazing effort to pull everything together and I really enjoyed a great meal with the food truck,” Helena City Council Member Hewy Woodman said. “I hope that those traveling to see the concert had the opportunity to explore Helena and visit local businesses.”

Although things did not go according to plan for the evening, those in attendance were determined to make the best of an unfortunate situation.

“All three performers played acoustic guitar and sang a few songs while sitting under the covered pavilion in the park,” City Council President Alice Lobell said. “The volunteers, most of whom had been there all day, and a few fans were able to enjoy a sampling of great music in between rain showers.”

Old Town Live will return on Thursday, July 3, for its Fourth of July celebration. Gates open at 5 p.m., Cracker kicks off the music at 6:30 p.m. and The Record Company takes the stage at 8 p.m. The evening will conclude with a firework show. Vendor registration is still open, it can be filled out at explorehelenaoldtown.com/vendorregistration. All of the food truck spots are booked.
