ALABASTER – Angel Evans has announced her campaign for election as Ward 1 representative on the Alabaster City Council.

“I am honored to announce that I am running to be a representative on the Alabaster City Council Ward 1,” Evans said.

Evans made the announcement on Thursday, June 19 on her official campaign Facebook page Angel for Alabaster. Evans lives in Alabaster with her husband, two children and three cats.

“I have been so impressed with its growth and support of its citizens,” Evans said. “My children attend Alabaster schools, and there is no other place I want them to be educated. Alabaster offers shopping, restaurants and entertainment and I am thrilled that everything I need is right in my neighborhood.”

Evans said that she believes Alabaster is an amazing town in which to live and raise a family and that she’s proud of the work that has been accomplished by the current administration.

“I am proud of the work that the current mayor, city council, school board and department heads have accomplished,” she said. “Our outgoing representative has been a true leader in our ward, and I seek to continue her legacy, by being a supporter of every citizen of Alabaster.

Evans graduated as a member of the 2024-2025 Alabaster Government Academy. She said that the opportunity was a great experience and that she has great respect for the city’s departments and wants to empower them.

As part of her platform, Evans wishes to encourage small and large businesses to open and operate in the city of Alabaster in order to secure a tax base for the city’s future.

“I will work to encourage businesses, both small and large, to open and operate in our city, while also encouraging support of these businesses to ensure that our tax dollars are going straight to our city’s future—the children enrolled in our Alabaster City School system,” she said.

During her time studying at Samford University, Evans studied the performing arts and with that background she hopes to bring more arts initiatives and classes to the city of Alabaster.

“I seek to connect professionals in music, art, and theatre to our students,” she said. “The arts build skills and confidence and it would truly benefit our city’s students.”

Another component of Evans’ platform is to focus on supporting the city’s parks as well as its upcoming new recreation center on Highway 119.

“I am proud of our city’s parks and the new recreation center,” Evans said. “I will endeavor to work to support clean, safe environments for our citizens to enjoy. This includes having competitive sports teams for our children and (adding) more adult activities.”

Evans also expressed her interest in making sure that the city’s senior citizen population is supported and informed through cooperation with the Alabaster Senior Center.

The Municipal Election for the city of Alabaster will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Current Ward 1 representative and City Council President Sophie Martin has announced she is not running for reelection.

Ward 1 will be a contested seat in the next election with Evans, Mike Myers and Gerry Bivins currently registered as qualified candidates.
