CALERA – Sitting Calera City Council Member Calvin Morgan has announced his decision to run for reelection.
Morgan officially announced his intention to pursue a second term in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 19.
“After much thought and prayer, I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for reelection of Calera City Council,” Morgan said.
Morgan has lived in Calera with his wife, Dee, for 35 years. They have a daughter and a grandson. According to Morgan, his motivation to run for another term stems from his desire to serve local people.
“I am running for reelection because I believe in the power of local government protecting what matters the most—our families, values and our future,” Morgan said. “I want to introduce myself and accomplishments as an elected official.”
Morgan explained how much he has enjoyed serving on the council during his first term.
“Serving for the past five years as a Calera city councilman has been very informative, but also rewarding,” Morgan said. “Attending local and national municipal conferences to stay current on laws and regulations that can be implemented by the city for future improvements has been inspiring for me.”
According to Morgan, paying attention to what the people of Calera had to say allowed him to accomplish a lot over the last five years.
“By listening to the citizens of Calera, I was able to suggest and implement a number of improvements which include—pay study evaluations, city employee raises, updated city holidays, downtown Main Street, additional traffic lights, additional storm shelters, street/highway infrastructure improvements and hotels—just to name a few,” Morgan said.
Interacting with the people of Calera prior to the election is something Morgan wants to do as he hopes to retain his seat. He also wants to help put the community in the best position possible.
“I look forward to meeting with residents, hearing your ideas and earning your vote,” Morgan said. “It is an honor to serve you, and I would be truly grateful as we work together to continue to build a better and stronger Calera for future generations.”
The Municipal Election is set for Tuesday, Aug. 26.
