ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools has named Amanda Harvie as the new principal of Meadow View Elementary School.

On Tuesday, June 24, ACS announced that Harvie, who currently serves as assistant principal, will be the new principal of MVES for the coming school year. She will be suited to the role thanks to her extensive background in education across multiple settings and states, according to ACS.

“My husband and I are proud residents of Alabaster, raising our two children here to experience the opportunities that Alabaster City Schools provides,” Harvie said. “I have taught, coached and been an administrator in ACS following many years teaching and coaching soccer in Louisiana.”

Harvie succeeds Michelle Brakefield who had served as principal since 2019. Brakefield announced her departure on social media on June 30 and is set to join the Alabama State Department of Education as its new regional literacy specialist.

Harvie graduated from the University of Montevallo in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in French and went on to secure her Master’s Degree in French and applied linguistics from the University of Alabama in 2009. She also has an education specialist degree in educational leadership and instructional technology.

Harvie has an extensive background in education—having worked in multiple roles on her journey to ACS.

She worked as a French teacher at Thurgood Marshall Early College School in Louisiana from 2009-2011 before serving as an educator with the St. Tammany Parish School Board from 2011-2014. Harvie worked multiple roles as a French teacher, English as a second language teacher and soccer coach from 2014 to 2016 for Shelby County Schools before joining ACS in 2016 as a teacher at Thompson High School for three years. She was named the assistant principal of Meadow View Elementary School in June 2020.

Harvie expressed her gratitude to the Alabaster City Schools Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers for the opportunity to serve in the new role.

“I am immensely grateful to the Board of Education and Dr. Vickers for the opportunity to lead Meadow View and continue building strong relationships with the students and community, ensuring that we are building Champions of the Future,” Harvie said.
