ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster, as well as the Parks and Recreation Department, was well-represented in the 6U Softball State All-Star Tournament by the community’s own 6U All-Star Squad.
Head coach Ward Banks reflected on the team’s strong regular season performance and how it helped prepare them for All-Stars play.
“We had a really good regular season,” Banks said. “We went undefeated, 16-0, in regular season. We won the end of the year tournament.”
The team was equipped with a variety of talented players, including a decent amount that competed in All-Stars last season.
“We had a bunch of good players” Banks said. “We had five or six players compete in All-Stars last year, all those girls came back and made it this year. We had some big bats. Paisley Banks hits really well. Hattie Harris is our cleanup hitter, she hits really well. Then we have a couple base hitters who just do their job and get on base. We have some pretty good gloves too, Addison Reimers is our circle player. She made play, after play, after play for us in the field.”
The city of Alabaster showed up for this group of girls, setting them up with high-quality equipment as well as extra accessories for their achievements.
“The Alabaster community was big for us,” Banks said. “We ended up getting about 10 or 11 sponsorships from local small businesses. We got the girls bat bags, we got batting helmets, we ordered big Under Armour water jugs. We were able to get two alternate jerseys with our names put on the back. We did a lot of different things for the girls and all that money came from different businesses in the community.”
Youth sports would not be possible without the support provided by the parents. Banks is confident he had one of the best parent groups this season.
“We had a phenomenal group of parents,” Banks said. “I’ve been coaching in Alabaster for about five or six years now and I haven’t had a bad parent yet. That speaks volumes for the community of Alabaster.”
While their talent certainly helped them along, this group was well-supported, allowing them to play to their full potential this season.
