MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo City Council met Monday, June 23, to discuss upcoming municipal needs, including preparation for the August election and a major citywide paving project.
During the meeting, the council introduced a resolution that authorizes the city clerk to provide the official voter list ahead of the August 26, 2025 municipal election. The resolution is a routine step in the lead-up to election day, ensuring proper coordination between city officials and election staff.
Council members also considered a paving contract as part of the meeting’s agenda. The council received a bid from Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction Company, LLC for $219,868.41 to carry out the 2025 citywide resurfacing project. The project will be funded through revenues from the Alabama Gas Tax, and the company was recognized as the lowest qualified bidder.
The council also heard complaints regarding the Almont neighborhood during the meeting, specifically related to noise ordinance violations and alleged criminal activity.
“We need to help this community,” said councilmember Martha Ann Eisenberg. “We need to get out there and do something (about these disturbances).”
Lieutenant D.B. Harrelson of the Montevallo Police Department explained that the county is in both Montevallo and Shelby County’s jurisdiction, meaning that depending on the area in Almont where disturbances are happening, either the MPD or Shelby County police can respond.
“That area is spotty jurisdictionally, and so if it’s in an area where Shelby County responds, we don’t always get notified of it,” Harrelson said.
