CHELSEA – As the night sky formed in the heart of Chelsea, hundreds of people gathered as they have for many years of late to celebrate a time that millions around the United States enjoy as well.

With music playing for much of the night, people running around and grabbing food and others hanging out in lawn chairs, a vibrant night carried on leading up to the fireworks show to cap everything off on a Saturday.

On Saturday, June 28, ChelseaFest and The Big Kaboom brought the entire city of Chelsea together for an early celebration of Independence Day, allowing hundreds to come together for a night of fun and making memories.

Lasting from 6-9:30 p.m., the ChelseaFest portion of the event saw numerous attractions present to keep people occupied while they waited for fireworks.

Chelsea City Council member Scott Weygand has always had a huge passion for supporting and attending the event, and with the attendance for the 2025 edition being as large as it ever has been, felt it was the best one of all.

“This was the best ChelseaFest and Big Kaboom yet,” Weygand said. “The weather was perfect, the band was fun and people showed up and had a good time.”

Numerous vendors were in attendance representing local businesses and candidates running for the municipal election, all handing out souvenirs for citizens to take home and enjoy.

Families could also choose from a variety of food trucks to eat from, including favorites like Chick-fil-A and Little Donkey, before getting popsicles and other sweets for desert.

The kids were able to jump on the inflatables and take a run on the slides as well, filling their time with entertainment as the event took place.

All of those attractions surrounded the stage that country and southern rock band Trotline stood on, serenading those in attendance throughout the night with their selection of hits and giving them something to listen to as they chatted with friends and enjoyed the weather that surrounded them.

The band was brought back after performing in a previous ChelseaFest, being a crowd favorite and a popular commodity amongst many.

“I have always enjoyed Trotline,” Weygand said. “They did a great job and were a lot of fun. I think they were part of the reason for such a great turnout.”

Trotline’s two-hour performance opened the door for a 30-minute fireworks show that lit up the Chelsea sky and saw Chelsea citizens sit in amazement as they capped off the night and one of the biggest celebrations in Shelby County with a tradition many Americans partake in each year, already looking forward to what is to come at next year’s festival.

“This is a great event, and it will continue as long as the people of Chelsea want it,” Weygand said.
