First, tell me more about yourself
I moved to Helena 21 years ago when I was hired at Helena Elementary. I have a 9-year-old daughter named Kenlee.  We both love eating Mexican food, spending time at the pool, lake, or beach, and hanging out with our friends and family.

Can you tell me about your career in education?

I’ve always loved working with children. In college, I worked as a nanny, and that experience inspired me to switch my major to education. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This fall, I’ll begin my 22nd year teaching kindergarten at Helena Elementary.

What kind of impact do the students you teach have on your life as a teacher?
Students have a profound impact on my life as a teacher. Their curiosity, energy, and growth constantly inspire me. Every success they experience—big or small—reminds me why I chose this profession. They bring so much laughter and joy to my life….and keep me on my toes every day!

What makes working with elementary school students special?
Working with elementary school students is special because of their enthusiasm and love for learning. They approach each day with curiosity and excitement Their creativity and genuine joy make the classroom a fun and rewarding place to be. As a teacher, it’s incredibly rewarding to help shape not only their academic growth but also their confidence during such an important stage in life.

What has been your favorite thing about working at Helena Elementary over the course of your time?

My favorite thing about working at Helena Elementary is the friendships I’ve made with the teachers and staff. The relationships I’ve formed with the students and their families. Helena Elementary is a close community where students, staff, and families all support each other. It is a positive place where everyone is encouraged to do their best. Helena Elementary truly is a special place.

Do you have a message you would like to say to the Helena community?

I’m so grateful to be part of the Helena Elementary family. This community is truly special because of the kindness, support, and teamwork we all share. Together, we create a safe and inspiring place where our kids can learn, grow, and thrive. I look forward to continuing this journey and making great memories along the way!
