Markus Snowden announces candidacy for Pelham City Council Place 4

PELHAM – Longtime Pelham resident and veteran engineering and construction professional Markus Snowden has officially announced his candidacy for Pelham City Council, Place 4 in the upcoming municipal election. With nearly 30 years of residency in Pelham and a career spanning nearly four decades, Snowden brings a deep commitment to the community and a results-driven background in infrastructure, project management and organizational leadership.

“Louisiana born and raised, but Pelham is where my home was made,” said Snowden. “I’ve had the privilege of living, working and raising a family in this city for decades. It’s my desire to give back by helping Pelham continue to grow responsibly while preserving the values that make it special.”

Snowden has worked for leading local and national firms including BE&K, KBR, AFL Network Services and Yates Engineers, where he has led multi-million-dollar operations, coordinated large-scale infrastructure projects and guided teams through complex engineering challenges. His experience has prepared him to bring sound judgment and practical leadership to the Pelham City Council.

Snowden’s campaign centers on fiscal responsibility, public safety and continuous improvement in both city services and community engagement. His key priorities include:

– Fiscally conservative budgeting

– Government efficiency through optimization and performance improvement

– Ongoing investment in Pelham City Schools and educational experiences

– Enhanced public safety through strategic planning for police and fire services

– Economic development, including support for existing businesses, attraction of new ones and smart infrastructure investment around the I-65 corridor

– Community development, including improved recreational facilities and family-friendly entertainment options

– Active listening to residents and business leaders for feedback-driven governance

“Pelham is growing, and with that growth comes both opportunity and responsibility,” Snowden said. “We need to make smart, strategic decisions that serve today’s families and prepare the city for tomorrow’s challenges.”

Snowden holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from Samford University.

He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and served as Chairman of the national Individual Benefits & Services Committee. He currently serves as Vice President and Organization Committee Chairman on the Calera Main Street Board of Directors.

Snowden’s career achievements include multiple industry awards such as:

– ABC Excellence in Construction Award for the UAB Project (2006)

– Birmingham Business Journal Executive of the Year Runner-Up (2007)

His professional history includes leadership roles in project engineering, electrical design, business development and corporate safety, with a track record of mentoring teams and managing complex budgets across Alabama and the Southeast.
